Single-leg stance phase (hemistatic phase)

Single-leg stance phase (hemistatic phase) is the phase of the gait cycle during which body weight is supported entirely by one lower limb. It begins when the opposite foot leaves the ground and ends when that same foot returns to ground contact. During this phase, the body must maintain balance and stability over the supporting limb. The muscles of the hip, knee, and ankle are activated to control alignment and prevent pelvic drop. The single-leg stance phase is a critical indicator of functional ability and neuromuscular control of the lower extremity. Impairments in this phase may indicate muscle weakness, pain, or neurological disorders.
