A periprosthetic infection is an infection that develops around an orthopedic implant. It is a serious complication of joint arthroplasty. It causes pain, swelling, and dysfunction. It often requires antibiotic treatment and sometimes surgical intervention. It can threaten the stability of the prosthesis.
