Xiphisternal articulation

The xiphisternal joint is the connection between the xiphoid process and the body of the sternum. At a young age, it is cartilaginous, while later it may undergo ossification. It contributes to the stability of the sternum. It has limited mobility. It may be a site of pain following trauma.
