Trochlea / pivot joint
The trochlea is an anatomical bony structure with a pulley-like shape that allows guided movement of a joint. A pivot joint is a type of joint that primarily permits rotational movement around a single axis, with a characteristic example being the radioulnar joint of the forearm. The morphology of the trochlea contributes to stability and control of movement, limiting unwanted displacement. These joints are important for functions such as rotation of the hand or foot. Injuries or degenerative changes in this area may lead to pain, instability, and reduced mobility. Proper function is essential for smooth daily activities.
