Steroids

Steroids are a class of natural substances. They are found in animals, plants, and fungi. In humans, they are also important as hormones of the adrenal cortex (corticosteroids). In specific cases, low doses of cortisone are administered during a specialized injectable treatment in the spine. It neutralizes the substances that cause pain in the area of inflammation between a herniated intervertebral disc and the irritated nerve root. Cortisone with high receptor affinity is preferred, such as triamcinolone.
