Q angle (Q-angle)

The Q angle is an anatomical measurement that evaluates the alignment relationship between the mechanical axis of the quadriceps muscle and the patellar tendon at the knee. It is calculated from the angle formed between the line extending from the anterior superior iliac spine to the center of the patella and the line extending from the center of the patella to the tibial tuberosity. It is used to assess knee mechanics and potential factors associated with patellar disorders. An increased or decreased Q angle may affect the tracking of the patella and contribute to pain or dysfunction. Its measurement is performed through clinical examination and specialized assessment tools.
