Posterior longitudinal ligament

The posterior longitudinal ligament runs along the posterior surface of the vertebral bodies within the spinal canal. It contributes to spinal stability and limits excessive flexion. It plays an important role in protecting the spinal cord and neural structures. It is often involved in disc herniation and degenerative changes.
