Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) rupture

A posterior cruciate ligament rupture involves one of the main stabilizing ligaments of the knee. It is usually caused by direct trauma, such as a blow to the front of the tibia. The patient may experience pain, swelling, and a feeling of instability. In many cases, the functional impairment is milder compared with an anterior cruciate ligament rupture. Treatment is often conservative, but surgical reconstruction may be required.
