Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL)

The Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) is a major stabilizing ligament of the knee that prevents the tibia from moving backward relative to the femur. It plays an important role in maintaining knee stability during movement and weight-bearing activities. Injuries to the PCL are less common than injuries to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). A PCL tear can cause pain, instability, and impaired knee function. Treatment may be conservative or surgical, depending on the severity of the injury.
