Patella

The patella is a sesamoid bone located on the anterior aspect of the knee, within the tendon of the quadriceps femoris muscle. It contributes to improved mechanical efficiency of knee extension. It protects the joint and distributes loads during movement. It plays an important role in knee stability and function. Injuries to the patella can significantly affect gait and mobility.
