Osteomyelitis

Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bone that can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or rarely fungi. It is most commonly caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. The condition may be acute or chronic and requires prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent serious complications such as bone destruction or spread of the infection to surrounding tissues.
