Ligamentum flavum

The ligamentum flavum connects the laminae of adjacent vertebrae and contributes to the stability and elasticity of the spine. It contains a high proportion of elastic fibers, allowing it to recoil after movement. Thickening of this ligament may lead to spinal canal stenosis. It is often associated with degenerative changes of the spine.
