Myxoid degeneration of the meniscus

Myxoid degeneration of the meniscus is a degenerative alteration of the meniscus in which its normal fibrous tissue undergoes changes and shows accumulation of gelatinous material. This condition is often associated with the natural wear of the joint due to aging or repetitive mechanical stress. It may cause knee pain, a feeling of pressure, stiffness, or limited mobility. Diagnosis is mainly based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and clinical evaluation. Treatment depends on the severity of symptoms and may include physiotherapy, activity modification, medication, or, in some cases, surgical intervention.
