Metastasis

A metastasis is a defined secondary tumor or site of infection that spreads to other parts of the body. The Latin term is filia, meaning daughter (plural filiae), referring to a secondary tumor. In a narrower sense, metastases refer to the spread of a tumor to distant tissues. However, the term is also used for the septic dissemination of pathogens.
