Lumbar disc disease is a condition of the spine that affects the intervertebral discs of the lumbar spine (the lower part of the back). It is caused by changes in the structure and function of the discs, which act as “cushions” between the vertebrae, resulting in reduced elasticity and decreased ability to absorb pressure and stress.
