Lateral instability
Lateral instability refers to laxity or insufficiency of the ligaments of a joint in the lateral direction. It often causes a feeling of “looseness,” pain, and an increased risk of injury. It commonly occurs in the knee, ankle, or shoulder and may result from trauma or repetitive stress. Treatment includes strengthening exercises, physiotherapy, or surgical repair in severe cases.
