Fibrous ankylosis of a joint

Fibrous ankylosis is a condition in which a joint shows significant limitation of movement due to the development of fibrous tissue. There is no complete bony fusion, but severe stiffness is present. It may occur after trauma, inflammation, or prolonged immobilization. It causes significant functional impairment. Treatment may be conservative or surgical.
