Sacroiliac joint

The sacroiliac joint is the articulation between the sacrum and the ilium. It is a strong joint with limited mobility that contributes to the stability of the pelvis. It transfers loads from the spine to the lower limbs. It is surrounded by strong ligaments that restrict movement. Dysfunction of this joint may cause pain in the lower back and pelvic region.
