Idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head

Idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head is a condition in which bone necrosis occurs without a clear cause. It results from impaired blood supply to the femoral head. It causes hip pain and progressive dysfunction of the joint. If left untreated, it may lead to collapse of the articular surface. Treatment ranges from conservative management to surgical reconstruction.
