Hemicraniectomy

Hemicraniectomy is a neurosurgical procedure in which a portion of the skull is removed to treat increased intracranial pressure. It is mainly used in severe cerebral edema, trauma, or hemorrhage. Removal of the bone flap allows the brain to safely swell, reducing the risk of herniation. It is a life-saving procedure in emergency situations. Later, reconstruction can be performed using cranioplasty.
