Gluteal tendinopathy

Gluteal tendinopathy is a condition affecting the tendons of the gluteal muscles, mainly the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus, which contribute to pelvic stability and hip movement. It is usually caused by repetitive loading, mechanical imbalances, or degenerative changes of the tendons. The most common symptoms include pain on the outer side of the hip, tenderness in the area, and difficulty with activities such as walking or lying on the affected side. Diagnosis is made through clinical examination and, when required, ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Treatment includes activity modification, specific strengthening exercises, physiotherapy, and a gradual return to loading.
