Gastrocnemius strain

Gastrocnemius muscle strain is an injury to the muscle fibers of the gastrocnemius muscle, which is located at the back of the calf. It is usually caused by sudden stretching or forceful contraction of the muscle during sports activities. Symptoms include sudden pain, tenderness, swelling, and difficulty walking or moving the ankle. The severity of the strain depends on the extent of muscle damage and is assessed through clinical examination and, when necessary, imaging studies. Rehabilitation includes rest, gradual return to loading, physiotherapy, and specific strengthening and stretching exercises.
