Ganglion (ganglion cyst)

Ganglion cyst is a benign cyst filled with a thick, jelly-like fluid that usually appears near joints or tendons, mainly in the wrist, hand, or foot. It develops from an outpouching of the joint capsule or a tendon sheath and may change in size over time. It is often painless, but in some cases it may cause pain, pressure on nerves, or restricted movement. Diagnosis is made through clinical examination and, if necessary, by ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Treatment may include observation, immobilization, aspiration, or surgical removal in persistent cases.
