Facet Joint (Zygapophyseal Joint)

A facet joint is the synovial joint formed between the articular processes of two adjacent vertebrae. It allows movements such as flexion, extension, and rotation of the spine. Facet joints play an important role in maintaining spinal stability and mobility. They are surrounded by a joint capsule and lined with articular cartilage. Degenerative changes of these joints may lead to pain and stiffness.
