External fixation (external osteosynthesis)

External fixation is a method of stabilizing fractures using an external frame that is anchored to the bone with percutaneous pins or screws. The system is applied outside the body, while the implants pass through the skin to stabilize the bone segments. It is mainly used in complex fractures, open injuries, or when infection is present. It allows adjustment of alignment during treatment. The goal is safe fracture healing with minimal soft tissue disruption.
