Patellofemoral joint

The patellofemoral joint is the articulation between the patella and the femoral trochlear groove. It allows smooth gliding of the patella during knee flexion and extension. It is a critical component of the anterior knee mechanism. Dysfunction may lead to pain and instability, known as patellofemoral syndrome. Proper alignment is essential for normal mobility.
