Thoracic vertebrae

The thoracic vertebrae are the 12 bones of the spine that articulate with the ribs. They contribute to the stability of the thorax and the protection of internal organs. They have a characteristic morphology that allows articulation with the ribs. They play an important role in the mechanics of breathing. Injuries to them may affect posture and mobility.
