Biomechanical instability

Biomechanical instability is the inability of a joint or a movement system to maintain its normal stability and proper control during movement. It results from dysfunctions in the muscles, ligaments, joints, or neuromuscular coordination. It may lead to reduced performance, pain, limited range of motion, and an increased risk of injuries. Its assessment is performed through clinical examinations and movement analysis. Rehabilitation usually includes stabilization exercises, strengthening programs, and improvement of motor control.
