Limb shortening
Limb shortening is a condition in which one lower limb is shorter than the other due to a difference in bone length or functional abnormalities affecting posture and movement. It may result from congenital abnormalities, injuries, fractures that have healed with shortening, or developmental disorders. A difference in limb length can affect gait, body posture, and the mechanical loading of the spine and joints. Diagnosis is made through clinical examination and specialized measurements or imaging evaluation. Treatment depends on the degree of the discrepancy and may include orthotic devices, physiotherapy, or surgical correction.
