Extruded Disc Herniation

An extruded disc herniation occurs when the nucleus pulposus of an intervertebral disc breaks through the annulus fibrosus and protrudes into the spinal canal. This condition may compress nerve roots, causing severe pain, numbness, or weakness in the limbs. It is most commonly found in the cervical and lumbar regions of the spine. Treatment depends on the severity of the symptoms and may be either conservative or surgical.
