Myotendinous Structure Rehabilitation

Myotendinous structure rehabilitation refers to the therapeutic process of healing and functional recovery of the muscle and tendon after an injury, such as a strain, tear, or chronic tendinopathy, with the aim of restoring the normal architecture, strength, and elasticity of the tissue.

Biological healing usually follows three consecutive stages: the inflammatory phase, during which the body removes damaged tissue and initiates the repair process; the proliferative or regenerative healing phase, during which new fibrous tissue is formed to replace the damaged area; and the remodeling phase, during which the newly formed collagen fibers gradually align according to the direction of mechanical forces, improving the tissue’s strength and functional capacity.

Successful rehabilitation depends largely on early and controlled loading of the affected area, as excessive immobilization may lead to the formation of a weak and poorly organized scar, while premature or excessive stress increases the risk of re-injury.

The rehabilitation program usually includes progressive exercise therapy, beginning with low-intensity isometric contractions and gradually advancing to eccentric exercises, which are considered particularly effective in improving tendon strength and reducing chronic pain.

Complete rehabilitation generally requires cooperation between an orthopedic specialist and a physiotherapist, with the goal of ensuring a safe return of the patient to full functional activity and reducing the risk of recurrence.
