Elbow Overuse Syndrome

Elbow overuse syndrome is a condition caused by repetitive or excessive stress on the elbow joint and the surrounding soft tissues. It commonly affects athletes who perform repetitive overhead movements, such as throwers and tennis players, as well as individuals whose occupations require frequent and intensive use of the upper limb. Continuous mechanical stress may lead to irritation of the ligaments, tendons, and articular cartilage, resulting in pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced range of motion. Diagnosis is based on the patient's medical history, clinical examination, and, when necessary, imaging studies such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Treatment usually begins with conservative measures, including activity modification, rest, physical therapy, and medication. In persistent or severe cases, surgical intervention may be recommended to restore function and relieve symptoms.
