Achilles tendon reflex (ASR) – also known as triceps surae reflex – is a human reflex and one of the most important reflexes in neurological examination.
It is a monosynaptic reflex that controls the function of the posterior tibial nerve arch.
Specifically, it evaluates:
• the integrity of the gastrocnemius and subtibialis muscles,
• the Achilles tendon,
• and mainly the sensorimotor arch of the 1st sacral neurotomy (S1).
